Fill the blank: Randoms

1.   My idea of pure perfection would be to live on the land in a big, old, light house with a veggie garden that takes care of itself, chickens for fresh eggs, horses to ride and many friends that lived close by.

2.  Love and laughter make the world go 'round.

3.  If it weren't for Jesus I'd not have a clear purpose to my life.

4.  Bloggers are fun and friendly and supportive.

5.  I'm glad it's Friday because I am REALLY tired and looking forward to doing some Spring cleaning around the house.

6.  Something I'm excited about is meeting our baby. We're more than half way through now and I can't wait to meet them!

Easy Peasy Gluten Free Pancakes for a quick dessert!

At our house, we generally eat gluten free food. For us it's pretty easy. We cook rice or corn pasta and when we have bread, it's usually a special sourdough rye which is also delicious! Baking is something that I usually don't worry about going gluten free, but tonight I made these pancakes and they were great! Here's the recipe...

Easy Peasy Gluten Free Pancakes


1 cup multi-purpose gluten free flour
1tsp baking powder
1 cup milk (I used low fat) - plus extra if needed
1 egg (I used size 70 free range)
slurp of vanilla
little butter or oil to grease pan

Sieve the flour and baking powder into a large bowl.
Crack the egg into the centre and begin to add the milk.
Whisk together, adding more milk if needed.
Whisk in some vanilla.
Drop mixture into the pan and flip over when bubbles form on the surface.

Makes around 8 pancakes

Delicious and quick! Tonight we ate them with maple and ice cream or berry jam and ice cream. Yum!

Classroom comments- On birth

A few weeks ago, my class and I read the book Mr. Seahorse by Eric Carle.

It's a great book that talks about Mister Seahorse who carries he and his Mrs' babies as he travels around the ocean. Along the way he meets other sea creatures who also have the male care for the babies. This started an interesting conversation about humans, and about how it's the female that carries the baby. There were giggles as someone wondered what it would be like to see a pregnant man.

Then came the next question... how does the baby come our of the mum? The chorus of 6 and 7 year old suggestions...
"They just cut it out of her tummy."
"Yeah, the doctor pulls it out of the tummy."
We explained that sometimes mum's need to have an operation called a cesarean and the baby is taken out of her tummy that way.

Ready to move on, it was then that I started to giggle... one of my 'learned' students was trying to make eye contact with me from towards the back of the group. When they were confident that I was tuned into them, they began to point downward, nodding, with raised eyebrows, checking if they were right.

I smiled and nodded at them. Correct!
