Back to work...

Day 1 with my new class yesterday. 21 little kiddies were in for the beginning of a new year of learning!
Above are some glimpses from my room at the end of the day yesterday.

We each made a bird which lists lots of our likes and strengths. They are hanging together near our reading corner.
I decided to cut up some coloured paper and sew together some bunting at home. I think that it makes the room look bright and cheery. The way I see it, I've got to be in that room for hours every day, I want it to be a nice place for me and the kids. :)
Yesterday we also made a birthday graph and interpreted lots of the data. I was most impressed with what they came up with- especially for 6 and 7 year olds!

Here's to another year...

A little something...

Source

My darling Tobes brought this home for me last night. I love Kikki-K and I love little gifts.
We've started a new process... I'll call it 'The Pink Box" and I'll explain it to you in a few days... :)

Here she comes

This is the size of Yasi.
I've been messaging my dear friend, Sarah, in Cairns who informs me that the power just went out. It's 10:17pm there and they are expecting the cyclone to cross land around midnight their time. Cairns should face the worst once the eye passes the coast.

May they be safe.

Cyclone Yasi

Poor Queensland. Really, they have been through so much this month with the devastating floods, and now a Tropical Cyclone is on the way. Not just any cyclone either, but one that they say is larger than Cyclone Larry and is said that it will rival Hurricane Katrina. Mental.

It is predicted to make land fall tomorrow evening.

We have dear friends living in Cairns, Atherton and Townsville, and friends of ours also have friends and family there too. Please pray for their safety and for mercy.

today and the week ahead

Oh my I have been very quiet here for the last week. Sorry about that. It's been all hands on deck since we got back from the beach for an extended weekend over Jess & Andrew's wedding.  It was really special to have our friend Kathrine down too from Queensland with us until Wednesday. I have a feeling that my posting will return to a slower rhythm too, with work going back on Tuesday. I hope that my enthusiasm returns soon because at the moment, I'm not feeling super motivated. I guess that's pretty normal when you're enjoying a long break!

The weather was mighty hot today, and the forecast indicates that things will stay pretty similar this week.On a positive, that means that the washing will dry quickly. Hoping for some cooler nights for a nice walk when Tobes gets home.

We escaped the heat today with a visit to the shops.

Mum and dad had 2 movie tickets that we set to expire, so we watched How do you know. I love a good ro-co, so the dodgy reviews didn't really bother me. Sure, it was predictable, but it made me smile, and laugh, and feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Tobes and I then ate sushi for lunch, got some great new work pants for Tobes (50% off!), went gooey over ragdoll kittens in the pet shop (while wondering if they came from puppy/kitten farms- boo) and bought a cookbook I've wanted for ages for $12.99 from $45! On the way hope we tried a Lemon Lime and Bitters Slurpee from 7-11 (and won a free one!) then had dinner and a swim at mum and dad's with the family.

That was all a bit of a whirlwind wasn't it?! I hope that you had a lovely weekend!
