Local wildlife

I feel very lucky to live where we do. We're in the burbs, but but there is a lot of wildlife around the place that we get to see every day. This time of the year is particularly great as the birds are out and about. Here are some photos from the last week or two of our local neighbours!

There are plenty of wood ducks about and they have large clutches of chicks. The top photo are of a group we see most days- 14 chicks! I can't imagine caring for them all!

The other day on a walk Tilly and I spotted this mumma all broody. We watched her for ages and eventually a tiny head popped out from under her wing. I was sad that I only had my phone with me to catch this  picture. We returned with the SLR later but she had moved on.

Noisy Miner and chicks
There are also plenty of noisy miners. We spotted this nest with the help of an elderly gentleman the other day. It was fun to watch the adults fly in to feed and then take off again.

Pacific black duck duckling
The pacific black ducks are so cute. We couldn't believe our luck when this mum and her 5 ducklings swam right near us and then walked close by. The ducklings were divine!

We've had our own treat lately too with a pair of tawny frog mouths taking residence in our neighbour's tree, that overhangs our property. I go out to see them every day and they always make me smile! This one was a single bird that spent just one day with us but the pair return to the same branch every morning! I'll be sad when they move on.

We'll keep our eyes peeled for more!
