Pre-Nesting

Are you a nester? I know that I am.

I feel most settled when I know where everything is, when I know where I can get good coffee and which aisle to find my favourite items at the supermarket. I like to know where the best take away places are and the short cut streets around the neighbourhood. When I know the neighbours and when I can walk through my house at night with all the lights out and not knock into any walls!

I crave being settled and feeling at home.

Living where I have for over 3 years means that I'm pretty much all over that stuff here.  There's not much mystery. Occasionally I discover something or somewhere new, and that's exciting, but I mostly like that I know it so well.

Preparing for a new move means that I'm doing what I like to call, 'pre-nesting'.

I've had a bit of extra time on my hands, being on school holidays, and I've found myself enjoying bits of my new neighbourhood, discovering parts of the area and trying to become familiar enough with it so that when we move, it will feel more like home.

I've been googling to try and find the best cafe (not much luck I'm afraid) and take away places (ditto). I've been a bit spoiled I'm afraid and I'm used to good quality, reasonably priced things. Moving a little further out changes things, but that's OK, my current home area isn't that far away.

What about you? I know you're out there! ;)

Do you pre-nest?

  1. I am totally a pre-nester.. Every move we've embarked on has meant weekends visiting the local shops, cafe's and parks (for the kids). Helps to get to know the locals, that's for sure! ;)
